Wimbledon and IBM QRadar: A Secure Doubles Strategy
Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world with millions of fans watching the matches, keeping up with news and scores and being digitally engaged. Wimbledon has won the best digital platform award at the BT Sport Industry Awards, putting not only design at the heart of the digital experience, but also security. The amount of data flowing in and out from digital platforms, like the Wimbledon one, is expanding rapidly, making the integration of innovative and trusted security measures absolutely fundamental.
IBM QRadar Follows Through
As one of the highest-profile websites in the world for the duration of the tournament, Wimbledon is inevitably a target for hackers and viruses. In 2015 the IBM Security team experienced a 500% increase in blocked security attacks. Needless to say, IBM QRadar plays an important part in the security of the Wimbledon Platform. IBM QRadar consolidates log source event data from thousands of devices, endpoints and applications distributed throughout a network, performing immediate normalisation and correlation activities on raw data to distinguish real threats from false positives.
Behind the scenes
ComputerWeekly were invited behind the scenes and the IBM Security team in action. The team uses the IBM QRadar software to analyse and detect event data. A real-time threat map identifies any attacks and their source, and allows the IBM operations team to respond rapidly to any threats.

As an option, this software incorporates IBM Security X-Force Threat Intelligence which supplies a list of potentially malicious IP addresses including malware hosts, spam sources and other threats. IBM Security QRadar SIEM can also correlate system vulnerabilities with event and network data, helping to prioritise security incidents.
